A luxury door handle is chosen twice: once on a page, once in the hand. The first choice is a matter of drawing; the second is a matter of weight. A lever that looks correct and weighs nothing will always feel like a sample.
Begin with the fall, the angle at which the lever meets a hand at rest. Ours is drawn at the fall of a relaxed arm, so the door opens before the wrist turns. Then the section: a lever should narrow where the fingers close and hold its mass where the palm lands.
Finish last, never first. Black steel and dark grey steel age quietly and keep their line under fingerprints; leather warms within a season of use. Brass and chrome are beautiful, and they are louder, they ask the rest of the room to answer them.
